The Axillary nerve is the most injured nerve in the shoulder, which can lead to loss of deltoid function, particularly shoulder abduction, shoulder joint stabilisation and external rotation. Suitable Pilates exercises for older men (over 60 years) after Axillary nerve damage were identified to improve their shoulder function. A case study approach is used to consider data from the literature review and the 12-week Pilates programme. Results suggest Pilates can be a safe and effective exercise intervention in older adults. Though Pilates might not help in recovering deltoid muscles with Axillary nerve damage, benefits may include improved shoulder function with better stabilisation, controlled movement of the scapulae and shoulder girdle, and improved overall health.
